Brimfield, July

So Brimfield in the world of antiques is the mecca of all fairs.  Nearly an hour outside of Boston lies this majestic land where three times a year (May, July, and September) the weeklong Brimfield Antique Show is held.

I spent three glorious 3 days at the show.  First time!  I came in Thursday at about 2am and was awake and ready to head out at 5.30 am getting there at 6.15am!  The only thing that was disappointing is that the areas where they open at 5am were still mostly closed!  So essentially most vendors start at 8am or just whenever they got there.  Aint no thang because you can still look in their tents.

Being from the Midwest, I have heard many a great story of the east coast and their antiques and history (our country started here!) and was way too excited to see what amazing things I would find.  I saw a handful of things that were amazing!  But those amazing items came at a pretty hefty price.  I don't know about you but I'm used to fairs and flea markets being a gold mine for inexpensive gems.  So why were these dealers pricing things retail?  It seems to be the new thing!  All these sellers like to refer to what they've seen on eBay and Craigslist and the like.  I feel like this is a cop out way to try to get top dollar on something they know nothing about.  HELLO!!! We are in the middle of a field and if you want money you have to work with me!  I'm not saying everyone was like this but some of us like the grittiness of digging and haggling.  I understand that the selling game is hard but you have to also understand the people that are coming to these shows.

I loved the experience, but every seller advised coming in May.  Must be the spring rush.  Everyone is ready to come out the house and spend some money on a few new things.   And seems more designers come out at this time as well.  Also it seems like July is really too warm for the east coast.  It was about 90 degrees and there were so many ambulances and people dehydrating.  I was cold!  I was just in over 100 degree weather in Chicago!  So maybe the next time I'll try spring and/or fall.

I did find quite a few things though...which I am completely in love with!

My leather and chrome 'bentwood' rocker

Pair of Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin cantilever chrome chairs.
These guys almost didn't make it...the seller was never there when i checked in!  Until!  Right before I left.

and my gorgeous Victorian mirror
I saw this beauty on my way to the food court!  Lying against the fence...all alone...

My wonderful companions with their goodies!

We took off early in the morn for the great drive back home!  And as you know you have to keep the energy up...this is what worked for me.  Oh how I love road trips!  Till the next one!

Any thoughts?  What do you think of my finds?  How would you use them?
